It’s official: Zendaya and Tom Holland are engaged!
The Spider-Man co-stars, both 28, are taking their love story off-screen and into the next chapter of their lives. A family source confirmed the exciting news to PEOPLE, while TMZ was the first to report it. According to the outlet, Tom popped the question over the holidays at one of Zendaya’s family homes.
But don’t expect a grand, fireworks-filled proposal story—Tom kept it simple, romantic, and intimate. A source dished that it was not a big, voer-the-top proposal but instead was very intimate and romantic.
Apparently, this engagement didn’t come as a surprise to those closest to the couple. “Everyone close to them knew an engagement was happening,” a separate source told PEOPLE. They went on to say that Tom’s been ready to propose “for a while.”
They added, “He’s always been crazy about her. He always knew she was the one. They have something very special.” Tom is said to have shared the happy news with friends around new Year’s.
While the engagement is now public, the couple isn’t rushing into wedding planning just yet. “They will just enjoy things for now and won’t rush a wedding,” the source explained. “Both of them have busy work schedules.”
Tom’s affection for Zendaya has always been evident, and now it’s official. “Tom’s always had this sweet way of letting the world know that Zendaya is his. Now, it’s official—she really is!” the source added.
The engagement buzz reached its peak on Jan. 5 at the 2025 Golden Globes when Zendaya stepped out sporting a stunning diamond ring on her left hand. The ring, which didn’t match the rest of her Bulgari jewellery, caught everyone’s attention. Bulgari even confirmed that the ring wasn’t part of their collection. The dazzling piece appears to be a 5.02-carat East-West Cushion Diamond Button Back Ring from Jessica McCormack, listed in the engagement section of the jewellery brand’s website.
Zendaya herself kept things playful when asked about the ring that evening. A Los Angeles Times reporter, who had recently gotten engaged, pointed to her own ring finger and gestured toward Zendaya’s as the actress exited the ceremony room. Zendaya responded by flashing her new bling and doing a cheeky jazz-hands motion. When directly asked if she was engaged, she simply smiled, shrugged coyly, and kept showing off the ring.
Hints about the big moment had already been dropped late last year. During a Dec. 18 appearance on the Dish podcast, Tom teased his “secret” holiday plans with his then-girlfriend. “I’ll be with my girlfriend’s family, which will be fun. Where we’ll be is a secret,” he said. With a grin, he added, “[Secret] to you guys. I’ll know where we’re going.”
