Stars lit up the 2021 BET Awards red carpet on Sunday (June 27) night with all the glitz and glam we’ve missed – with many turning heads with their fabulous looks.
One star in particular turned heads in an iconic ensemble – Zendaya, who rocked a vintage purple Versace dress with lime green straps and extreme cutouts.
Zendaya is no stranger to paying her style icons tributes with her red carpet looks. If the dress seems familiar, it’s because it is. Beyonce wore the exact same dress at the 2003 BET Awards – the same year she made her debut as a solo artist on the BET stage with her performance of “Crazy In Love” with now-husband JAY-Z.
Zendaya’s long-time stylist, Law Roach, confirmed the Beyonce tribute on his Instagram, celebrating Zendaya’s awards night look with a short clip of her sashaying down the red carpet captioned, “Paying homage to the Queen Beyoncé wearing @versace SS2003…..get you a stylist with a ARCHIVE!!!!”
The Disney alum pulled a few style stops to make the look her own – like opting for a maxi version of the dress vs. Beyonce’s shorter skirt in 2003. Z also paired the dress with strappy purple heels and topped with look off a sleek middle-parted low ponytail and dangling earrings.
Her look even got Donatella Versace’s seals of approval. The designer went on Instagram to share a few photos of Zendaya’s look and wrote, “@zendaya!! You looked just SENSATIONAL last night at the @bet awards💥 I’ll never forget @beyonce wearing this in 2003. A tough act to follow but you aced it effortlessly! You got me looking….!! 💜💜💜.”
As we mentioned, this isn’t the first time that the 24-year-old actress has paid tribute to her style icons with her fashion choices. Just this April, Zendaya brought classic 70s Cher vibes to the Oscars red carpet in her vibrant yellow Valentino gown with a midriff-baring cutout – a nod to the yellow jumpsuit Cher wore in The Sonny And Cher Show. Needless to say, she looked sensational, too!
