The 1975 is facing some legal trouble.
The band, consisting of Matty Healy, Ross MacDonald, George Daniel, and Adam Hann, is being sued for breach of contract following what happened at Malaysia’s Good Vibes Festival.
The event’s organizer is going after the band after Matty kissed Ross on stage as a protest to Malaysia’s anti LGBTQ laws.
Outlets report that Future Sound Asia’s legal counsel has issued a letter to The 1975 for break of contract. They are requesting that the band compensate them for the agency’s losses after the event was cancelled – to the amount of $2.7 million.
Future Sound Asia’s attorney David Matthew wrote in a statement:
“They entered into a binding contract with Future Sound Asia to perform and the position of Future Sound Asia, among others, is that this contractual obligation was breached.
Further, Mr. Healy’s representative categorically provided a pre-show written assurance that Mr. Healy and The 1975’s live performance ‘shall adhere to all local guidelines and regulations’ during their set in Malaysia. Unfortunately, the assurance was ignored.”
He added:
“[The 1975’s] actions have had repercussions on local artists and small businesses, who relied on the festival for creative opportunities and their livelihoods.”
The 1975 was banned from Malaysia following the kiss.
