Suki Waterhouse has made a grand return to the music scene! On Thursday (June 20), the 32-year-old musician and actress unveiled her latest single, “Supersad,” which serves as the lead track from her highly anticipated double album, Memoir of a Sparklemuffin. This release marks her first album since 2022’s I Can’t Let Go.

“Supersad” is a vibrant, catchy track that perfectly encapsulates the nostalgic essence of the ‘90s. Suki herself shared some insights about the inspiration behind the song. “I tried to write a nineties song you could hear playing at the mall in Clueless or as an opening track for Legally Blonde,” she said. The accompanying music video, directed by Émilie Richard-Froozan, complements the song’s nostalgic vibe, bringing a fun, retro flair that fans are sure to love.

The title Memoir of a Sparklemuffin might sound whimsical and intriguing, and there’s an interesting story behind it. Suki explained that the inspiration came from a very uniquely named spider. “I came across the Sparklemuffin — which is wildly colored, does this razzle-dazzle dance, and its mate will cannibalize it if she doesn’t approve of the dance. It’s a metaphor for the dance of life we’re all in. The title felt hilarious, ridiculous, and wonderful to me,” she explained in a press release. This metaphor highlights the playful yet perilous nature of life, much like the album’s exploration of human emotions and experiences.

In addition to releasing “Supersad,” Suki also revealed the complete tracklist for Memoir of a Sparklemuffin. Fans are eager to dive into the new songs, which promise to deliver a mix of reflective ballads and upbeat anthems. The tracklist includes titles that hint at a journey through various emotional landscapes, capturing moments of joy, heartbreak, and everything in between.

Mark your calendars! Memoir of a Sparklemuffin is set to be released in full on September 13, 2024. This album is expected to be a significant milestone in Suki’s music career, showcasing her growth as an artist and her ability to blend her musical influences into a unique sound.
