Selena Gomez is heartbroken over the latest immigration crackdown in the U.S.
The 32-year-old actress and singer shared an emotional video on her Instagram Story, expressing her devastation over the deportation of Mexican immigrants under Donald Trump’s administration.
“All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise,” she said through tears.
Selena later deleted the video but followed up with a text slide that simply read: “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.”
Her post came after a nationwide immigration crackdown on Sunday (January 26), which led to the arrest of 956 people—the largest number since Trump returned to power, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) via BBC.
Mass deportations of undocumented immigrants have been a central focus of Trump’s latest policies, and tensions continue to rise. Recently, Mexico denied a U.S. military plane access to land, at least temporarily delaying the Trump administration’s plans to deport more immigrants, according to NBC News.
In addition, Trump is reportedly pushing forward with threats to impose tariffs on Mexico and Canada, per new reports.
Selena has long been outspoken about her Mexican heritage and has used her platform to support immigrant rights. While she may have deleted her video, her message resonated deeply with fans, sparking conversation about the ongoing crisis.
