Lupita Nyong’o has been turning heads with her stunning fashion choices, and her recent appearance on the red carpet was no exception. The 41-year-old actress dazzled in a sequined catsuit at the premiere of her new sci-fi horror thriller, A Quiet Place: Day One, held at the AMC Lincoln Square Theater in New York City on Wednesday.

Nyong’o, known for her bold and elegant style, spoke with ET’s Rachel Smith at the event, revealing her fashion inspirations and the thought process behind her glamorous look. When asked about her celebrity style icon, Nyong’o didn’t hesitate to name someone who consistently impresses her with their fashion sense.

“Tracee Ellis Ross,” Nyong’o said, praising the Black-ish star. “She dresses so well, so I’d say her.”

Ross, known for her eclectic and vibrant fashion choices, seems to have a significant influence on Nyong’o’s style. Nyong’o’s admiration for Ross’s ability to create memorable red carpet moments reflects her own approach to fashion, which combines elegance with a touch of daring.

Nyong’o’s striking black, shimmering ensemble at the premiere was a perfect example of her unique style. The catsuit, covered in sequins, not only highlighted her stunning figure but also paid homage to her character’s kitty companion in the film. Nyong’o explained that her outfit choice was inspired by the feline world, a new influence in her life since working on the movie.

“This whole film has opened me up to the feline world, so the catsuit is inspired by that,” Nyong’o shared. Her character in A Quiet Place: Day One, named Sam, is a young woman who owns a cat named Frodo. The film, a prequel to the 2018 original A Quiet Place, follows Sam as she navigates an alien invasion of New York City. Despite initially fearing cats, Nyong’o has embraced her character’s feline friend, allowing it to influence her off-screen style. “Now I’m wearing my cat everywhere I go,” she added with a smile.

Nyong’o’s embrace of feline fashion is a testament to her ability to take on new challenges and find inspiration in unexpected places. Her role in A Quiet Place: Day One required her to overcome her fear of cats, and she has done so with grace and humor. The catsuit she wore to the premiere is not only a nod to her character but also a symbol of her personal growth and adaptability.

The star-studded premiere of A Quiet Place: Day One also featured appearances by her co-stars, including Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, Djimon Hounsou, and Eliane Umuhire. The film promises to be a thrilling addition to the franchise, offering fans a deeper look into the events that led up to the terrifying world introduced in the original film. Directed by Michael Sarnoski, the prequel delves into the early days of the alien invasion, providing audiences with a fresh perspective on the story.

A Quiet Place: Day One hits theaters on June 28.
