Kim Kardashian made a big impact at this year’s Met Gala when she walked the red carpet wearing one of the most iconic dresses of all time.
The 41-year-old reality star donned the dress that was worn by Marilyn Monroe almost 60 years ago. It was the dress Marilyn was wearing when she sang “Happy birthday, Mr. President”!
Vogue revealed:
“[Kim] wore the original dress for a matter of minutes. Given the fragile nature and historical value of the dress, she wasn’t about to take any chances.”
Once she got to the top of the carpet, Kim changed into a replica dress. She told Vogue:
“I’m extremely respectful to the dress and what it means to American history. I would never want to sit in it or eat in it or have any risk of any damage to it and I won’t be wearing the kind of body makeup I usually do.
Everything had to be specifically timed and I had to practice walking up the stairs.”
Kim also revealed that she lost 16 pounds in 3 weeks in order to fit into Marilyn’s classic dress:
“It was this or nothing.
I would wear a sauna suit twice a day, run on the treadmill, completely cut out all sugar and all carbs, and just eat the cleanest veggies and protein. I didn’t starve myself, but I was so strict.
I wanted to cry tears of joy when it went up.”
Kim was joined by boyfriend Pete Davidson on the red carpet.
