Khalid, the Grammy-nominated artist behind hits like Better and Young Dumb & Broke, is sharing his truth. The 26-year-old singer took to social media to publicly come out as gay, marking a personal milestone and solidifying his place as a voice for authenticity and self-acceptance.
Khalid’s announcement came through a series of candid posts on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday night (November 22). He kept things simple, starting with a joyful and direct tweet:
“🏳️🌈!!! there yall go. next topic please lol,” he wrote, adding a dash of humor to a deeply personal moment.
Fans and followers were quick to respond, with one tweet humorously speculating, “Wait hope Mr Khalid isn’t GEHHH!” Khalid, unfazed, replied confidently: “I am! And that’s okay.”
Shortly after, he elaborated on his feelings about being outed:
“I got outted and the world still continues to turn. Let’s get this straight (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality it ain’t nobodies business! But I am okay with me 🖤 love yall.”
This marks the first time Khalid has publicly discussed his sexuality, although his words make it clear that he’s at peace with himself and isn’t dwelling on the opinions of others.
While this is Khalid’s first time speaking about his own sexuality, he has always been a vocal ally of the LGBTQ+ community. His 2018 hit Love Lies—a collaboration with Normani—was the official single for the Love, Simon soundtrack, a groundbreaking romantic comedy centered on a gay teen’s coming-out story.
Even earlier, Khalid used his platform to champion inclusivity and equality. In 2017, while being honoued as one of Time’s Most Influential Teens, he spoke about the power of young voices in shaping a better world.
“America today feels like a scary place for many people—people of color, DREAMERS, women, the LGBTQ community,” he told Time. “It’s the young people of America, the teens, who have the power to create change.”
In true Khalid fashion, his coming-out moment wasn’t accompanied by a dramatic announcement or media blitz. Instead, he handled it with humor, grace, and a message of love—for himself and his supporters.
As he continues to navigate his journey, fans can expect Khalid to remain true to himself, using his platform to create music that resonates deeply while advocating for acceptance and equality.
