Jerry Springer has sadly passed away.
The revered host and TV icon’s death was confirmed by a family spokesperson to outlets on Thursday (April 27). He was 79.
The influential talk show host helmed The Jerry Springer show, which ran for 27 years on the small screen. He was known for his outlandish guests, wild fights and chase scenes, controversial takes, and impassioned audience cheers of “Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!”
According to the report, Jerry passed away in his residence in the Chicago area. The spokesperson said that Jerry had been diagnosed with cancer some months ago.
Prior to his TV run, he was a politician who ran for U.S. Congress back in the 1970s before her was elected as part of Cincinnati’s City Council in 1971. He became the mayor for a term in 1977.
The Jerry Springer Show debuted on TV in 1991 and ran all the way through to 2018. He had another show, Judge Jerry, which then ran for three seasons. His last TV appearance was on The Masked Singer as The Beetle.
Jerry is survived by his daughter Katie Springer and his sister Evelyn.
