James Van Der Beek is facing the high costs of cancer treatment and turning to a nostalgic piece of his career to help cover the burden.

The 47-year-old Dawson’s Creek star recently revealed he was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer in 2023. To raise funds for his ongoing care, James announced on Instagram that he’s selling autographed jerseys from his iconic 1999 film, Varsity Blues.

“Merch drop!” James shared enthusiastically in his post on November 22. “Excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of #VarsityBlues with a limited edition #4 Moxon jersey—each one personally autographed by me. Grab yours now at the link in my bio or head over to JVDB.Shop.”

He added a heartfelt note about where the proceeds will go: “100% of my net proceeds will go to families recovering from the financial burden of cancer (including my own 😇).”

Accompanying the post were photos and videos of James wearing the #4 jersey, embodying his beloved character Jonathan “Mox” Moxon, the small-town quarterback from Varsity Blues.

In his Instagram Story, James encouraged fans to act quickly: “Order now & get a signed one in time for Christmas,” using the hashtag #cancerisexpensive to underline the financial strain cancer can cause.
