James Franco is set to make a return to acting. His comeback comes four years after the 44-year-old performer faced sexual misconduct allegations.
On Tuesday (July 12), THR reported that James has been cast in the period drama Me, You, taking on the role of a fisherman.
The movie comes from director Bille August, bess known for his work on The House OF The Spirits (1993) and Les Miserables (1998). James’ co-stars include Tom Hollander and Daisy Jacob.
James said in a statement:
“I am excited to board this phenomenal project and to be working with the legendary Bille August.
I’m a huge fan of his work, and Me, You is a truly brilliant script.”
Production is slated to begin in September.
James stepped away from his acting career after five women came forward in an article published by the Los Angeles Times in January of 2018. They accused him of sexually inappropriate behavior.
Two of the alleged victims filed a sexual misconduct lawsuit against him in 2019 and in 2021 they reached a settlement, with the actor agreeing to pay $2,235,000.
In December 2021, James broke his silence and addressed the allegations, revealing that he had been struggling for years with sex addiction.
