Jack Black, the talented frontman of rock duo Tenacious D, has made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of their tour and take a step back from working with his longtime partner, Kyle Gass. This decision comes in the wake of a controversial remark made by Gass following an assassination attempt on former President Trump.
The incident occurred during a show, which happened to coincide with Gass’s birthday. During the celebration, Gass made a shocking and inappropriate comment when asked to make a wish on his birthday cake. He said, “Don’t miss Trump next time,” which left the crowd stunned and prompted immediate backlash.
Jack Black quickly addressed the situation, sharing his thoughts and decision on Instagram. “I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday. I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form,” Jack wrote. “After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”
Kyle Gass also issued an apology, expressing deep regret for his actions. “The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake. I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgment. I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret any pain I’ve caused.”
The abrupt halt to the Tenacious D tour is a significant move for the band, known for their comedic and often irreverent style. Jack Black and Kyle Gass have been performing together as Tenacious D for decades, amassing a dedicated fan base and achieving cult status with their unique blend of rock and comedy. Their decision to put future creative plans on hold highlights the seriousness of the situation and their commitment to addressing the fallout from Gass’s remarks.
