Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed aren’t racing back to the screen anytime soon, but they’re keeping busy in ways that are every bit as meaningful to them. The couple recently opened up about their lives beyond acting during a rare appearance at the 2024 Environmental Media Association Awards in Los Angeles on October 26, sharing why they’re both prioritising new ventures over their acting careers.
Ian, known for his roles on The Vampire Diaries and V Wars, reflected on stepping back from acting for now. “I think it’s in the rearview mirror. I do,” he told People, referencing his career on-screen. “Well, I dunno, we got the rights back for V Wars, but I just don’t know how the hell we would ever make a TV show. We’re building three companies at the same time, raising kids.”
Ian and Nikki both appeared on V Wars, a Netflix series that aired for one season, but with business and family at the forefront, Ian suggests acting may stay on hold for the foreseeable future.
Nikki echoed Ian’s thoughts, though she’s not closing any doors just yet. “I don’t make any definitive statements about anything,” she said. “I don’t look at anything. I work over 90 hours a week right now. I’m running a company full time and just launched another, a shared company with The Absorption Company. And I just can’t imagine being able to pivot my energy away, but there’s no door closed.”
The Absorption Company, their supplements brand, has become a key focus for both Ian and Nikki, with both deeply involved in its mission and operations. Juggling these business ventures alongside parenting has brought new purpose, leaving little time for acting commitments.
While fans may miss seeing Ian and Nikki on screen, the couple appears more than fulfilled in their entrepreneurial and family lives. For now, they’re content building their ventures and raising their children, finding fulfillment in their work behind the scenes and on their own terms.
