Hugh Jackman is stepping into a new role—this time as the co-founder of Together, a theater company dedicated to creating “intimate and accessible” live performances.

Teaming up with producer Sonia Friedman and director Ian Rickson, the 56-year-old actor is on a mission to bring audiences closer to the heart of storytelling. The company aims to stage fully rehearsed plays, readings, and panel discussions in small venues across the U.S., U.K., and beyond.

The vision? To strip productions down to their essentials, focusing on performance rather than elaborate staging. “By stripping the fully rehearsed productions down to their essentials, with minimal décor, Together aims to celebrate the raw power of storytelling—getting back to what often makes theater so compelling in the first place,” the company’s statement reads.

Jackman and his co-founders emphasized their commitment to collaboration, ensemble performances, equal pay, and shared creative credit.

“With director Ian Rickson we wanted to create a company where actors, writers, and directors could experiment, explore, and take risks, away from the pressures that are often associated with the commercial theater world,” they said in a joint statement. “Together is about going back to basics, rediscovering the simple, thrilling essence of live performance.”

They made it clear this venture isn’t about stepping away from Broadway or the West End—it’s about offering something different. “We have always been drawn to theater because of its raw energy—the excitement of a first reading, the joy of stepping into an unexpected role, that sense of a shared experience.”

With an emphasis on flexibility, spontaneity, and evolution, Together is set to redefine what modern theater can be.
