Yup, it’s true: Zac Efron has officially reached that age where he can believably play a dad. And in true-blue new dad fashion, he needs a little vocabulary lesson when it comes to a pop culture term that he is now redefining (without knowing it!): Zaddy!
The 34-year-old actor, who is set to star in the reboot of the 1984 film Firestarter, is taking on his first father role. He is a dad to a 12-year-old daughter in the movie.
Many, many fans, especially millennial, have been beside themselves at the realization that Zac, who once starred as a teenage dream in the iconic High School Musical films, is now old enough to take on dad roles! And of course, they have now anointed Zac as a “Zaddy.”
Zaddy is a term that entered pop culture lexicon over half a decade ago. It means a good-looking dad. As Esquire once put it:
‘Zaddy is a man ‘with swag’ who is attractive and also fashionable.”
When Zac was told that he’s been hailed a Zaddy, he very cutely said:
“Wow, cool! Is ‘Zaddy’ not Zac Daddy, or what is it?”
The adorably clueless actor was told what it actually meant, to which he stated:
“Is it? Oh wow. All right, I’ll take that one!”
After this, his movie daughter then handed him a trophy, and he said:
“A Zaddy trophy. Oh, that’s what that means.”
