Camila Cabello isn’t holding back when it comes to spilling the tea on her latest album, C,XOXO, especially regarding a surprising collaboration with none other than Drake. The former Fifth Harmony songstress revealed the intriguing backstory behind getting the rap icon on board for her project.
In a candid interview with Billboard, Camila dished on the unexpected partnership with Drake, which kicked off during a rendezvous in the Turks and Caicos Islands in December 2023. Despite initial rumors suggesting a romantic connection between the two, it was actually a creative collaboration that brought them together.
“He’s the f–king GOAT, so it felt like shooting for the stars,” Camila exclaimed, detailing how she slid into Drake’s DMs to pitch the idea. “I showed him the album when I felt comfortable enough, and he really liked it. [The feature] came out of a nontransactional place. He had this idea of a song called ‘Hot Uptown,’ and it just felt like I was in the city. I was in Miami.”
Surprisingly, Drake’s involvement extends beyond just a single track. Apart from “Hot Uptown,” he takes the lead on an interlude titled “Uuugly,” where Camila serves as a backing vocalist—a decision that left her with mixed feelings.
“Why does he have his own song?” she chuckled, reflecting on the unexpected turn of events. “Because selfishly, I just want to hear Drake on my own album.”
But for Camila, it’s more than just a bold move—it’s about embracing her rebellious side and asserting her creative autonomy. “I love that for me—it’s like that rebellious mood. Who says I can’t do that? It’s Drake talking his sh-t,” she asserted with a hint of defiance.
In addition to her collaboration with Drake, Camila also joined forces with Lil Nas X for their electrifying track “HE KNOWS,” adding another layer of excitement to her upcoming album.
