Chelsea Handler is getting real about her breakup with Jo Koy.
The two comedians ended their relationship back in the summer of 2022 after being a couple for one year. They were very good friends for many years prior to dating.
In a new interview on Brooke Shields’ Now What? podcast, Chelsea opened up about why her friendship with Jo is yet to be repaired. She stated:
“I mean, there has to be some accountability, you know what I mean? Like, from him about what happened, because it was just ridiculous.”
She went on to explain why she is unable to be friends with him right now:
“I don’t think we can have a friendship until there’s some accountability and some responsibility taken.”
Chelsea revealed that her relationship with Jo “devolved” while they were a couple:
“There was just some behaviors that we couldn’t agree on. And it felt to me like I would have to abandon myself, which maybe I would have been OK to do if I were 20 or 25. But I wasn’t willing to do that.
I was like, ‘I’m not going to change the way that I behave in order to make you feel more comfortable. I’m not doing that.’ I had to walk away from something that I really thought was going to be a forever relationship.”
She said about their split:
“Walking away from him was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to do.”
