Johnny Depp is back on the stand amidst the ongoing defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard.
On Wednesday (April 20), the 58-year-old actor testified in court for the second time in his case against the 35-year-old actress.
He sued Amber back in 2019 over an op-ed that was published in the Washington Post where she alluded to allegations she made against him in the past, saying she had become “a public figure representing domestic abuse.” Johnny responded to this article with a $50 million dollar lawsuit – even though she did not name him in the article nor did she detail any of the alleged abuse. She then filed a $100 million counterclaim.
Here are the biggest bombshells from Johnny’s second testimony in court:
- Johnny claimed that Amber used drugs on their wedding day. “Amber, a couple of friends of mine… All of her gang were all partaking in the MDMA.” He said he didn’t do any MDMA then and does not remember drinking alcohol – though he admitted to smoking marijuana
- His daughter Lily-Rose Depp was not at their wedding. “Lily-Rose did not come to the wedding. She and Ms. Heard were not on particularly great terms for several reasons”
- Johnny wanted to make his marriage to Amber “work.” He said that even though Amber would “strike out” at him in “her frustration and in her rage” and her alleged abused, he stayed in the marriage. “Why did I stay? I suppose because my father stayed [in his abusive marriage]… And I didn’t want to fail. I wanted to try to make it work. I thought maybe I could help her. I thought maybe I could bring her around. Because the Amber Heard that I knew for the first year, year and a half was not this, suddenly this opponent. It wasn’t my girl, she had become my opponent.”
- He claimed Amber threatened to commit suicide “many times” when they got into explosive arguments. “Ms. Heard had spoken of suicide on a couple of occasions, so that also becomes a factor. That’s always something that lives in the back of your brain and that you fear. Many times when I would try to leave, she would stop me at the elevator with the security guards, crying, screaming, you know, ‘I can’t live without you. I’m gonna die.’ But you had to get out.”
- Amber allegedly did not like his Winona Ryder tattoo, which he changed to “Wino forever” after he and Winona broke up. He said Amber hated that tattoo and made him get a tattoo of her own name, which he got. “And ironically it wasn’t long after that that everything started going sideways. I was doing everything I could to bring a smile to her face as opposed to a frown and then the onslaught of whatever problems she was experiencing. I would try to wake her up with laughter, singing stupid songs in her ear. I generally just tried to keep bringing her mood up. Sometimes it worked, many times it didn’t. But I tried.”
- He alleged that Amber threw a vodka bottle at him, severing his finger. “She walked up to me, and reached and grabbed the bottle of vodka, and then just kind of stood back and hurled it at me. I honestly didn’t feel the pain at first at all .… I felt heat … and I felt as if something were dripping down my hand, you know. And I looked down and realized that the tip of my finger had been severed and I was looking directly at my bones sticking out.”
- Johnny stated that Amber had a “need for violence.” He claimed that Amber instigated their arguments and would escalate their fights to physical violence. “It was not meant to help the relationship, it was meant to feed her need for conflict. She has a need for conflict, she has a need for violence. It erupts out of nowhere.”
