Eddie Redmayne is getting real about one of his past movie roles.

The 39-year-old actor has admitted that he believes his role in The Danish Girl was a mistake. The 2015 film is a biographical romantic drama based on the 2000 novel of the same name, and inspired loosely by the lives of Danish painters Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener.

Eddie starred as Lili Elbe, one of the first known recipients of sex reassignment surgery. The role earned him an Oscar nomination.

Recently, he revealed that he would not have accepted the role in these present times. In a feature with The Sunday Times, Eddie stated:

“No, I wouldn’t take it on now. I made that film with the best intentions, but I think it was a mistake.

The biggest discussion about the frustrations around casting is because many people don’t have a chair at the table, There must be a leveling, otherwise we are going to carry on having these debates.”

Alicia Vikander played Gerda, Lili’s wife who supported Lili. Alicia won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance.

Eddie won a Best Actor Oscar the previous year for The Theory Of Everything.

In other Eddie news, his highly-anticipated film Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore finally has a release date. The movie, in which Eddie stars as Newt Scamander alongside Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore and Mads Mikkelsen as Gellert Grindelwald, will be hitting theaters on April 15, 2022.
