Dax Shepard is pretty banged up after being involved in a motorcycle accident while driving around a racetrack – and opened up about it on his podcast, Armchair Expert, earlier this week.

He said he was pretty reluctant to talk about it at first, because he did “not want to get in the habit of getting attention for being injured.”

“I was passing six guys on Sonoma Raceway on a motorcycle and I was braking very, very hard — hard enough that the back wheel was off the ground for a good 100 yards,” Dax recalled.

He also took responsibility for his part in the accident, adding, “I was totally at blame. I thought I would be able to slide in between, but someone turned in and I was already under full brake and I couldn’t go anywhere.”

“I clipped their bumper and I went over the handlebars,” Dax continued, “and I landed pretty hard.”

What happened next seems to be something out of a movie – he got “thoroughly yelled at” by track employees, but, after icing his shoulder and hands, he went back in for “two sessions” on the track.

However, Dax eventually realized something wasn’t right – the ride became “too painful by the end of it.”

It’s a good thing he decided to go to the emergency room the next day. “I’ve been at the hospital for seven hours today,” Dax shared. “The final tally was four broken ribs, the clavicle’s broken in three places, and I need surgery.”

But he feels quite guilty for giving his friends a scare. “I feel very bad. It’s inconvenient for everyone. It scares everyone. I’m sure you and Kristen [Bell] were scared and I feel guilty about that,” he added, speaking to his co-host Monica Padman.

On Wednesday (August 19), Dax posted a shirtless photo on Instagram – and he was sporting some pretty painful-looking bruises on his chest and shoulders.

“Thank you Armcherries for all the well wishes and concern. I’m in one piece and spirits are high 🙂 Sorry for causing concern. ♥️🍒♥️🍒♥️” he wrote in the caption.

But, if anyone thinks this experience will stop him from getting back on a bike, well…not exactly.

“I don’t think I’m going to quit, but I think I might be willing to quit for the remainder of 2020,” he said during the podcast.

This actually isn’t the first time that Dax got injured this year – back in May, his wife, Kristen Bell, revealed that he had “crushed all the bones” in his hand.
