Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are giving fans a glimpse inside their new home.
ICYMI, last year, eagle-eyed fans began to notice that the couple seemed to have moved out of the Beverly Hills home they’ve lived in since 2016. Turns out, they did – they were staying at a rental while they renovated the new six-bedroom, nine-bathroom home they bought.
They originally bought the new home as they prepared to welcome a new addition to their family. Sadly, in September of last year, the couple lost their third child – their son Jack – 20 weeks into the pregnancy.
John previously opened up about the decision to move to Architectural Digest. “We thought we were going to have a new addition to our family earlier this year, and so we were thinking we wanted more bedrooms and more living space. And we still expect to expand our family in the near future.”
On Wednesday (May 12), while Chrissy was doing an Instagram Live cooking demo on how to make a red lentil soup recipe from her upcoming cookbook, the couple also gave fans a quick tour of their gorgeous new home.
John panned the camera through the living room, which featured a pink armchair, glass sconces and a huge television cabinet with a Thai print. A portion of the living room is lined with large glass panels, which lets in plenty of natural light and offers a view of their 100-foot saltwater infinity pool and the stunning view beyond.
One of their home’s most surprising features is an actual living tree right in the middle of their open floor plan.
“We have a tree in the middle of the house,” John points out. Chrissy called it “the tree of life.”
“We dedicated this to baby Jack and it’s really beautiful,” John explained. “We were inspired by our friend Kelly Wearstler’s house — she has a tree in the middle of it — and we thought it would be cool to have one here.”
Aww…
Chrissy further explained the significance of the tree. “It’s important for us in Thai tradition that we always embrace the ones we’ve lost, and they’re never, ever gone. This tree being planted inside the home, the whole reason why I wanted it was so Jack’s ashes could be in that soil and he could be with us all the time and grow through the beautiful leaves in this tree,” she told PEOPLE.
“The way Miles and Luna talk about him is so beautiful and reminds me of when I was little talking to my grandpa who was just sitting bedside next to my mom in a little urn,” she continued. “It’s all beautiful, and I love that tradition carries down.”
John also took fans to their dining area, which featured a hanging gold light fixture with multiple bulbs, reminiscent of a cherry blossom branch.
“I love a statement chandelier,” John said, adding, “I love everything about this dining area.”
Continuing his “Instagram Live Cribs” tour, he then walked behind a wall partition and showed fans their large but cozy family room – complete with comfy-looking modular sofas, fuzzy poofs, a large TV, the works.
“It’s a little messy because we do a lot of stuff in here,” John said. “This is our family room. If we’re watching Real Housewives, it’s mostly in here.”
Chrissy has actually mentioned the tree while they were still renovating the home.
“The kitchen will be my favorite part of the house, because it leads into that area with the tree—I don’t know if I can talk about the new house, really! But the open area of the new house has a gorgeous tree and this beautiful seating area,” she previously told AD.
And as for saying goodbye to their old home, Chrissy admits there were a lot of feels.
“The emotions of that are very intense. Thinking about all the things that house has experienced and all the transitions and what my life has been through. It is incredible. It is more than just a space. So many fantastical memories,” she told the magazine.
And the new owners of their old home might even get a surprise visit from Chrissy. “Honestly, I still go back to [one of our previous homes] and I hit that buzzer and talk to the person who lives there,” she shared. “Me and my mom maybe eight months ago went to that house and spoke to the owner and checked in on it. I assume I am going to do the same thing with this house.”
