Chet Hanks is taking a strong stance against hate groups and bigots who have co-opted his “White Boy Summer” phrase for nefarious purposes. The 33-year-old actor, who is the son of Hollywood icons Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, originally coined the phrase back in 2021 as a light-hearted response to Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hot Girl Summer.” At the time, Chet explained that the phrase was meant to be fun and playful, offering fashion and behavior tips to white men.
However, a recent report from the New York Times on Tuesday (July 2) revealed that various white supremacists and other hate groups have begun using “White Boy Summer” as a slogan to recruit new followers, organize protests, and incite violence. This troubling development has prompted Chet to speak out and clarify his intentions behind the phrase.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Chet expressed his dismay at how his words have been twisted. “White boy summer was created to be fun, playful, and a celebration of fly white boys who love beautiful queens of every race,” he wrote. “Anything else that it has been twisted into to support any kind of hate or bigotry against any group of people is deplorable and I condemn it.”
Chet emphasized that his goal was always to promote inclusivity and positivity, not division. He added, “I hope that we all can spread love to each other and treat each other with kindness and dignity.”
