Earlier this week, Penguin Random House was announced that Prince Harry is coming out with a memoir, which the publisher describes as a “definitive account of the experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons that have helped shape him.”
Random House also announced that the as-yet untitled “intimate and hearltfelt memoir” will cover “his lifetime in the public eye from childhood to the present day, including his dedication to service, the military duty that twice took him to the frontlines of Afghanistan, and the joy he has found in being a husband and father.”
In a statement on Monday (July 19) the Duke of Sussex said, “I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become.”
“I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story — the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned — I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think,” he continued. “I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a firsthand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful.”
The book is expected to be out sometime in 2022. According to Page Six, Prince Harry is reportedly receiving $20 million as an advance for his book – the proceeds of which he will be donating to charity.
Buckingham Palace issued a short statement with regards to Prince Harry’s upcoming memoir. “Any clarification about the book would be a question for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” the statement said, per PEOPLE.
However, a spokesperson told the outlet that Prince Harry did give the Royal Family a head’s up about the book’s publication, adding that the Duke is not expected to ask for permission from the Palace.
Prince Harry isn’t the first member of the Royal Family to publish a memoir. In 1951, Queen Elizabeth’s uncle, Edward, Duke of Windsor, formerly King Edward VIII – he abdicated the throne to marry American socialite Wallis Simpson – published a biography titled A King’s Story: The Memoirs of the Duke of Windsor.
