Brandon Routh and Courtney Ford have broken their silence following the news of their divorce after 17 years of marriage.

The couple, who tied the knot on November 24, 2007, share a 12-year-old son, Leo. In her divorce filing, Courtney is seeking joint legal and physical custody of Leo. She has also requested spousal support and asked the court to deny any spousal support claims from Brandon.

On Thursday (January 9), Brandon and Courtney released a joint statement, shedding light on their decision to separate and why they delayed addressing the news.

“We were focused on grabbing our go-bags and evacuating yesterday. It feels ridiculous to post this statement with fires still raging, but an online publication announced our news before we could. We are safe, but in shock and grief for our friends who have lost their homes and businesses. Our hearts break for our community devastated by the ongoing fires. We love you Los Angeles❤️,” they shared.

The former couple went on to address their separation, emphasizing their commitment to co-parenting and mutual respect.

“To everyone who has loved and supported us, we have some personal news to share. After 21 years together, and 17 years of marriage, we have decided to begin a new journey, and enter this next chapter of life as friends and co-parents. We are now and forever rooting for each other as we move through this wild adventure called life. Our son is, and will always be, our highest priority, and we appreciate your understanding as we navigate this transition. With love and gratitude, B&C,” the statement read.

Fans of the duo may recall their on-screen collaboration in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Brandon and Courtney appeared together in the popular CW series, which ran from 2016 to 2022, bringing their chemistry to both their personal and professional lives.

The couple’s announcement comes during a challenging time for Los Angeles, with devastating wildfires displacing countless residents. While their personal news has been met with shock and sadness by fans, Brandon and Courtney’s message of unity and focus on co-parenting offers a hopeful note for their next chapter.
