Arden Cho is setting the record straight on why she has chosen to leave the ‘Teen Wolf’ franchise behind.
The actress starred in the MTV series as Kira Yukimura. The show, which ran for six seasons, is now being turned into a film. Many of the original stars are returning for the movie – but Arden is not one of them.
Many fans speculated that the reason she is not involved in the Teen Wolf movie is because she was offered less than her peers for her role. Now, Arden herself has confirmed that this was, in fact, the case.
In an interview with The Cut, Arden addressed the reports that she declined to join the film because of pay parity, stating:
“I think I was actually offered even less. I probably would’ve never shared it.”
She went on to say:
“Sometimes you don’t have a choice to say ‘no.’ Sometimes you just need it. You’ve got bills to pay. I wasn’t saying ‘no’ necessarily for me or because I was angry. I was saying ‘no’ because I hope that there will be more equality in the future.”
Arden also agreed with the reports saying this wasn’t an isolated incident:
“Off the top of my head, think of over 10 Asian American actors I know who were paid significantly less than their counterparts.”
