Amanda Seyfried really, really wanted to be part of the upcoming Wicked big-screen adaptation.
In a new interview with Backstage, the 36-year-old actress opened up about how she tried her hardest to get the lead role in the highly-anticipated film. She revealed that she had auditioned for the role of Glinda The Good Witch – a part which would eventually go to Ariana Grande.
Amanda shared that she wanted the part so bad that she auditioned for it even as she was filming another movie, The Dropout, which then made the process of auditioning even more challenging. She said:
“Last summer, while I was playing Elizabeth, on the weekends I was auditioning in person to play Glinda in the movie version of Wicked — because I wanted it the much.
I was like, ‘You know what? Yeah, I have to pay the last scene of The Dropout on Tuesday. I’ll give my Sunday to you.”
She went on to candidly share:
“I literally bent over backwards while playing the hardest role of my life.”
The role she was referring to was that of Elizabeth Holmes in The Dropout. Her performance earned acclaim and praise from critics and audiences.
Amanda said that even though she did not get the part, it was still a very enlightening experience for her:
“I think it also taught me how far I’ve come as a singer, which I really wanted to prove.
Because ever since Les Mix I was like, ‘I need to be better. I need to do better.’ So whatever comes next in terms of musicals, I’m finally prepared.”
Back in 2015, Amanda spoke about how much she wanted the role even then in an interview with ET, saying:
“I might be too old when they make it. Or I they make it sooner than later, maybe I’m not the right person. I just still — I want it. I want to present myself and be a good candidate.”
